Tuesday Update

My niece Taylor arrived from the city. She's a toddler, so I got her a set of 'toddler grip' markers. Basically, they are fat, stubby things which you hold onto by their bases. The main colours in the set seem to be 'dog', 'bird', 'cat', 'elephant', etc., so they also double as action figures. If you've ever tried to draw a picture with an action figure, holding it by its head, that's what it's like to draw with these markers. Definitely a strange feeling, for sure (Of course I tried them), and needless to say, they don't offer much control.

While I don't know that I'll be switching permanently to the 'toddler grip' way of making pictures, it WAS a reminder that sometimes, when you're creating artwork on a regular basis, it's a good idea to try a new technique every once in a while. It's all too easy to fall into favoured routines, materials and methods of working. You never know what what will happen if you just take the time to change things up, experiment and see what happens.

That said, today's character will be drawn in a mixture of apple sauce and sweet potatoes.

Playing with one's food... making strides towards artistic growth... ehn... they're kinda the same thing.
