Hey! Thanks for checking out my blog and gallery. This is a space where I post about various art projects, including my cartoon and comic strip series 'Characters Of The Day', which I've been doing off and on since 2010. Combining character design, wordplay and plenty of fantastic imagery, 'Characters Of The Day' appears Monday-Friday on its own site, Instagram and Facebook.
I've always had a keen interest in character design. Much of my artistic influence is derived from comics, animation, picture books and movies. I also draw a lot of inspiration from my hometown community, Prince Edward County, Ontario. Animals and nature are also an endless source of wonder and fascination.
I'm a graduate of Sheridan College's Classical Animation program, and also of the University of Toronto, where I specialized in English Literature. I like to think that my cartoons and characters combine elements from those two worlds: visual art and the written word. I tend to work traditionally, with ink and watercolour being my preferred medium. Lately, however, I've begun to use more digital tools, especially in my daily cartoons.
Recently, I illustrated my first children's picture book. Written by Hilary Leung and published by Scholastic Canada, 'Stego-cumulus' is a story about friendship, science, imagination and clouds - lots of clouds! It's available in most book stores and online.
Currently, in addition to my daily 'Characters Of The Day' posts, I'm working on new personal projects. I'll be sure to post about them here, so please check in again soon.
If you have a project in mind for which you think my art style may be a good fit, please feel free to talk to me about it. I may be available to collaborate on story-based/character-based projects: picture books, graphic novels, cover art, character/concept design, storyboards, etc. Or, just drop a line and say hi!
